Bangladesh will play Holland in what will be the last game of their tour of the UK. The Bangladesh side has had a reasonable tour so far, but they would have hoped for something more than a 1-1 result that they got from the Ireland series. What will augur well for the Bangladeshi side is, however, the win that they achieved over England.

Holland, on the other hand, goes into this game after having finished fourth in the recently concluded ICC World Cricket League Division One tournament. They had a decent tournament, but lost to the likes of Afghanistan, Scotland and Ireland before overcoming Canada and Ireland.

Bangladesh’s biggest strength in conditions like this is their spin bowling. This is, despite the fact that the spinners may not get as much purchase as they would normally do on a pitch back home, because the batsmen would struggle to come to grips with a track that swings around early, with the new ball.

The good news for Bangladesh, though, is that their opening batsman in Tamim Iqbal showed enough signs of returning back to form and their injured wicket-keeper, Mushfiqur Rahim is back.

Holland will look to continue with the same line-up that had played in the WCL Division One, but expecting an upset here would be expecting too much.

Bangladesh takes on Ireland in 1st ODI match on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Belfast. Bangladesh have lost the ODI series against England recently and they need to overcome by winning the 2 match ODI series against Ireland.

While Ireland have won the last match against Scotland by six wickets and they will be looking forward to defeat Bangladesh in the 1st ODI also on Thursday.

Bangladesh have defeated England in the 2nd ODI and it was the first win for Bangladesh against England in any format and also they are in good form to face Ireland.

Bangladesh failed to secure a dream series win after they were thrashed in the deciding ODI by 144 runs, after conceding 347. Bangladesh team will be led by Mortaze, as Mortaza regained the captaincy for the limited-overs leg of the tour and he said he was settling in well to his new role after a long injury battle.

England vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI Match, Edgbaston, Birmingham, On Jul 12, 2010 from 09:45 GMT | 15:15 IST Onwards

Andrew Strauss insisted he felt no shame at being the first England captain to lose to Bangladesh after the Tigers at last won a match in 2010. Bangladesh’s dramatic five-run success in the second one-day international at Nevil Road here on Saturday, saw them level the three-match series at 1-1 and end a run of 24 consecutive defeats across all formats stretching back to November last year.

It also meant they had defeated England for the first time, having lost all of the previous eight Tests and 20 ODIs between the two countries. “They were going to beat us at some stage and we were just hoping it would be some stage in the future,” Strauss, who had the meagre consolation of knowing England were the last major nation to succumb to Bangladesh, told a post-match news conference.

“That has been and done now.” And he was adamant losing to Bangladesh was not as bad as being captain of the England side skittled out for just 51 in an innings and 23-run Test defeat by the West Indies in Jamaica last year. Strauss, asked if Saturday’s loss represented his worst day in cricket, replied: “No is the answer to that.

“Getting bowled out for 51 in Jamaica was worse than this but it’s not fun to stand up here after losing in this fashion. England failed to chase down a modest target of 237 runs set by Bangladesh.” All we can do now is go forward and make amends,” the opening batsman added ahead of the series finale at Edgbaston on Monday.

“We’ve only got ourselves to blame but we also have to give credit to Bangladesh. They were able to take wickets throughout the innings and keep the pressure on. They thoroughly deserved their victory.” Strauss added: “I’m still very buoyant but you need to learn from your mistakes. There are a few to learn from today.”

Bangladesh recalled former captain Mohammad Ashraful and all-rounder Naeem Islam on Friday after batsman Roqibul Hassan and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim were ruled out of the ongoing one-day series against England.

Roqibul, who top scored for his side with 76 in the first ODI, was injured after being struck by the ball on the left toe while Mushfiqur was hit in the face by left-arm spinner Faisal Hossain and had to be stretchered off the field.

“Ashraful left home this morning while Naeem will also fly out in the next available flight as Roqibul and Mushfiqur will not be available in the remaining two matches of the series,” chief selector Rafiqul Alam told Reuters.

Bangladesh lost the first ODI of the three-match series by six wickets in Nottingham on Thursday.
Alam said Roqibul would be out of action for two weeks, ruling him out of ODIs against Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands, but he was hopeful Mushfiqur would return for the Ireland and Scotland ODIs.

Uncapped wicketkeeper Sahgir Hossain had also been called up as cover, he added.”He (Sahgir) will join the squad as soon as possible subject to visa approval. Until he reaches England, batsman Jahirul Islam will handle the job of wicketkeeper,” said Alam.

England vs Bangladesh 1st ODI Match, Trent Bridge, Nottingham, On Jul 8, 2010 from 13:30 GMT | 19:00 IST Onwards

England captain Andrew Strauss insists he has no qualms about leading a side without Kevin Pietersen. The star batsman will miss the three one-dayers against Bangladesh, starting at Trent Bridge here on Thursday, with a thigh injury – although England selection chief Geoff Miller said the South Africa-born shotmaker would have been rested in any event.

Pietersen has gone 16 ODI innings without a fifty and while his place, when fit, is not yet under threat, the loss of arguably their most talented player means England are set to give one of the Warwickshire duo of Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott a chance to fill the gap.

“He (Pietersen) is a loss because he’s a world-class player but he’s being replaced by people with proven track records in international cricket,” Strauss told reporters at Trent Bridge here on Wednesday. “It’s not as if we’re blooding a youngster on the back of losing our biggest player. I’m entirely confident we’ve got the reserves in place to cope with that loss,” Strauss added.

Bell, 28, has played 79 one-dayers for England but hasn’t featured in one since facing India in Bangalore back in November 2008. However, he restated his one-day case with a limited overs best 158, off 143 balls, for the second string England Lions in their dramatic triangular series tied match against India A in Worcester on Tuesday.

Bell, who averages just over 35 in ODIS, has been accused of scoring too slowly to be an effective batsman in the one-day game.
Strauss though said: “His form this year has been excellent. He’s played, by all accounts, very positively and very aggressively for both Warwickshire and the Lions.”
He’s a good package and potentially he is a world-class player. It’s fantastic to have the likes of him to call upon and Jonathan Trott as well, who has never let anyone down in an England shirt in one-day cricket and has been in outstanding form for Warwickshire as well.

“They are two very, very high-quality replacements and that bodes well. “Turning to Bell, who has also played 57 Tests, opening batsman Strauss added: “I think he has made a conscious effort to be more aggressive.” He’s always had the shots, the key is always when to use them. At the moment, he’s taking on the shots more and finding he’s a good enough player they’ll come off more times than not.

Australia vs England 5th ODI Match, Lords, London, On Jul 3, 2010 from 09:45 GMT | 15:15 IST Onwards

Australia will look for more “pace and fire” from fast bowler Shaun Tait when they face England in the fifth and final one-day international at Lord’s here on Saturday.

World champions Australia may have lost the series, at 3-1 down, but they have been a transformed side since Tait, playing for county side Glamorgan, was drafted in after the second one-dayer in Cardiff following an injury to off-spinner Nathan Hauritz.

Australia came to Britain without several injured quicks in Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus. Thoughts that England had only gone 3-0 up because they were facing an under-strength and under-prepared side were strengthened when they crashed to a 78-run defeat against Australia in the fourth ODI at The Oval on Wednesday.

Tait, who retired from first-class cricket last year, primarily because of a shoulder injury caused by his ’slingshot’ action, has given Australia’s attack a boost and coach Tim Nielsen said: “There’s no doubt he’s added pace and fire to our bowling attack. That was something we’ve been lacking.”

But Nielsen, speaking at Lord’s on Friday, ruled out Tait appearing against England when Andrew Strauss’s defend the Ashes in Australia in a five-Test series starting in November. “We wouldn’t want to risk him (Tait) in Test cricket until he’s played some extended games for his state team. At the moment I wouldn’t have thought he’ll play in the Ashes.”

England just did enough to seal a series win against a Tait-inspired Australia with a one-wicket victory in the third ODI at Old Trafford, with the fast bowler used in spells as brief as an over by captain Ricky Ponting.

England captain Strauss, also speaking at Lord’s — his Middlesex home ground — said Friday. “We played him better at the Oval and we hope that will continue at Lord’s. But express bowlers need to put the ball in the right place, otherwise they can be expensive. Tait has done that pretty well, but we believe there are still opportunities to score off him if he doesn’t get it quite right.”

And while a 5-0 whitewash may have disappeared, Strauss said: “To win a series against the number one team in the world 4-1 would be an outstanding achievement.” Meanwhile, Nielsen said pulling the series back to 3-2 would be significant for a new-look Australia side.

“None of our (originally selected) bowling attack had played any cricket in England previously and they’ve improved as the series has gone on. It would be nice to finish 3-2. If we do that we’ll have played well tomorrow (Saturday) and it will be a fair reflection of the series.”

Australia vs England 3rd ODI Match, Old Trafford, Manchester, On Jun 27, 2010 from 09:45 GMT | 15:15 IST Onwards

Tim Bresnan has told his England teammates to maintain the standard they’ve set for themselves when they face Australia in the third of five one-day internationals on Sunday.

England are 2-0 up against the world champions and victory at Old Trafford would give them an unbeatable lead. But Bresnan, a member of the England team that beat Australia in last month’s World Twenty20 final in Barbados, told reporters here on Saturday: “We haven’t achieved anything yet. We’ve still got a lot of hard work to do.”

The Yorkshire seamer added: “There’s three games left and we’d like to wrap it up in style. There’s a lot of confidence about, the guys are playing well, dovetailing quite nicely and that’s how you win cricket matches as a team.

“We’re certainly a confident side but we’re ever improving. We’re looking to improve every day and as long as we keep doing that we should win more than we lose.” But with England holding the Ashes, as well as the World Twenty20, Bresnan knows Australia will be desperate to avoid losing a one-day series to their oldest rivals as well.

“They’re definitely going to come hard at us tomorrow,” he said. “We’ve obviously played some good cricket, stopped them playing as well as they can. That’s what we set out to do and we’ve done that well. All we need to do is do that for another three games and hopefully we’ll get a positive result.”

Bresnan was doubtful for this series with a foot injury but insisted he was now completely fit. “It’s fully okay, 100 per cent fit, it’s holding up well. The medical staff did a marvellous job with it. I’m really pleased.”

England have looked sharp in the field with captain Andrew Strauss enjoying a tactical triumph in Thursday’s four-wicket win in Cardiff when Michael Clarke was caught at short leg just a few balls after Graeme Swann was stationed there. “It was just inspirational captaincy – and that’s what Straussy brings,” Bresnan said.

“He’s done unbelievably in the last two games, and I’m sure he’ll continue to do that. We’re not ahead of the thinking – it’s quite easy to just bowl a ‘cross-seamer’. It’s where you bowl it, and what situation you bowl it in.

England captain Andrew Strauss refused to get carried away after seeing his side take a 1-0 lead in their one-day international series against old rivals Australia. It seemed world champions Australia were about to inflict fresh one-day misery on England as the hosts, chasing 268 for victory under the Rose Bowl floodlights here on Tuesday, slumped to 97 for four.

But a superb 103 not out from left-hander Eoin Morgan, a Middlesex colleague of Strauss, turned the tide and saw England to a four-wicket win in the opening fixture of a five-match series. Last year Australia, after losing the Ashes, thrashed England 6-1 on English soil in a one-day series and followed that up with a nine-wicket semi-final win en route to lifting the Champions Trophy in South Africa.

A cautious Strauss was reluctant to compare the current England one-day side with the lacklustre outfit of a year ago, telling reporters at the Rose Bowl: “I’d prefer to answer that after five games, not one. “We’ve done a lot of things right in this game. The bowlers did a good job to restrict them to 267, and I think at the half-way mark we were in front. But it’s just one game of cricket – and Australia being Australia, they will come back hard at us for these remaining games.

But Australia captain Ricky Ponting insisted he detected no change in England’s attitude to the one-day game. “Maybe they are getting a few more results now,” Ponting said. “That doesn’t necessarily mean there’s been a change in attitude, it might just mean they are actually playing better and executing their skills when they need to.

“I thought this (Tuesday’s match) was a pretty even contest, for the majority of the game it was right in the balance.” The second match of the series takes place in Cardiff on Thursday where England’s final-wicket pair of James Anderson and Monty Panesar somehow clung on for a draw in the first Test against Australia.
“We’re 1-0 down with four games to go,” Ponting added. “We’ve got to make sure we are in the best shape we can be physically and mentally for the next challenge we’ve got.”

As the countdown to the World Cup looms ever closer, India face more than a moment of truth at Rangiri Stadium on Thursday. Attempting to wrest the Asia Cup from the sweaty hands of holders Sri Lanka in the final is a lot tougher than merely turning up to the venue in the heart of the emerald isle’s cultural triangle.

Flaws in the batting techniques have been woefully exposed yet again as the trio of hope battle with certain doubt about how they handled the bowling in the dress-rehearsal on Tuesday. This was a game notable for the first hattrick of the Asia Cup by a Sri Lanka bowler, Farveez Maharoof, who ended with an impressive five wickets haul.

It was a spell that destroyed India’s batting and they will need to lift their mental approach for the final. Their implosion, engineered by the impressive bowling of Maharoof, saw the side slump from 189 for five to 210, with only Rohit Sharma passing the half-century mark as Sri Lanka’s fielding and bowling disciplines were far sharper to those of India.

Gary Kirsten and MS Dhoni will have a lot to reflect as they rake through the debris of the seven-wickets defeat of Tuesday. It is not a question of apportioning blame so much as the skills of the batsmen under pressure failed. This was after Kumar Sangakkara win the toss and decided to field first.

Apart from committing his side to batting under lights, a gamble which he knew would work, Sri Lanka know the conditions better than most visiting teams, especially batting under lights. Beating India at this venue in similar conditions is nothing new. In the 2004 Asia Cup, Mahela Jayawardene and Russel Arnold pulled off a stunning upset after the side had slumped badly in the first half of the innings.
If you consider long-term decisions on India’s 2011 World Cup squad, two names missing from the side for the final are Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag with Yuvraj Sing as a possible third name. It is why Virat Kohli with 39 runs at an average of 13 from three games and Suresh Raina, with 53 runs at 26.50 show lean pickings from this tournament while Rohit Sharma only achieved an average of 30.33 from Tuesday’s batting debacle.

Considering the lower-order batting debacle, there were no heroics as Maharoof, who by rights should have been in Australia with the A Squad preparing for a limited-overs series with little chance of playing, scythed through the bottom half with six wickets falling for 21 runs. It is not what Dhoni wanted. The question is whether to blame Sharma’s running between wickets. It was a tight call, too tight and this is where the floodgates were breeched with the Maharoof hattrick.

Sri Lanka now have the problem of whether or not to play Maharoof in the final. There is no hint from the camp who spent the day relaxing but enjoying fun in the swimming pool at their luxury hotel in the hills.

India, however, with Sehwag out of the side and no Tendulkar to fall back on, there will be heavy reliance on Gautam Gambhir, India’s leading run-scorer with 188 runs at 62.66 and Dhoni at 135 runs at 67.50. It means a matter of repairing the damage of Tuesday. How they will achieve this depends on how the top three batsmen perform.
Dhoni’s decision to bat higher against Pakistan worked well and the chances are he might do this again as his run out dismissal turn the innings upside down. His batting with Gambhir on Saturday night was a treat to watch and although he misjudged the Shoaib Malik delivery, he looked in good touch.

Just who India will decide to play, the chances are that Kohli, despite a disappointing series will be at three. He is young enough to grow into the position, but at this stage is far from the replacement for Dravid and this is where India have a problem. If the selectors insist on playing Dinesh Karthik, they need to find him a middle-order role. He is no Sourav Ganguly or VVS Laxman, or as good as several other batsmen on the fringes, but in an emergency he could fill a position.

England may have enjoyed success against Australia during the past year but captain Andrew Strauss insists they remain the team to beat in one-day internationals. The old rivals begin a five-match limited overs series at the Rose Bowl here on Tuesday with England, who won the Ashes last year and beat Australia in the World Twenty20 final in Barbados last month, looking to complete a ‘treble’ with victory over the Aussies in the third of international cricket’s formats.

But Australia are world champions in the 50-over game. Last year, after losing the Ashes on English soil, they thrashed England 6-1 in a one-day series and then beat them by nine wickets in the semi-finals on the way to winning the Champions Trophy in South Africa.

Australia have arrived in England without injured fast bowlers Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle and now it is down to the likes of left-arm quick Doug Bollinger, Clint McKay and Ryan Harris to plug the gaps.

Strauss’s county colleague Owais Shah said Australia’s pace attack lacked the “X-factor” after scoring 92 against them for Middlesex at Lord’s in the tourists’ final warm-up match on Saturday. However, Strauss said: “I think it would be disrespectful to say they haven’t got that X-factor.

This series will see left-hander Strauss opening with Craig Kieswetter, man-of-the-match in the World Twenty20 final for a blistering 63.
The duo shared a century stand first time out together in England’s warm-up win over Scotland and Strauss said: “He’s got the ability to hit those big shots and clear the ropes, which takes pressure off at the other end.”

Strauss, a more restrained batsman, added: “I wouldn’t want to rein him in unless the risk profile was going through the roof. He’s clearly got a big range of exciting shots and we want to see those.”
